Our explanation written by Tale of the Muse
A triolet is eight lines on two rhymes, and three of the eight are repeats: the first line returns as the fourth and seventh, and the second line returns as the eighth. The glossary writes the pattern as ABaAabAB, with capitals for the repeated lines.
Our plain-language restatement of the glossary rules above. It adds no facts of its own.
